ST. PETERSBURG

Brian Ransom constructs the musical instruments he plays. He also makes the clay he uses to mold the ceramic flutes, drums and even the harps.

At the Florida Craftsmen Gallery on Friday night, several dozen people came to listen to him play. Some were old friends, others newcomers.

They admired the instruments on display at the gallery. Several cost more than $1,000. The asking price for one small vapor-fired ceramic horn: $200.
